"Under the Bridge: The Anatomy of Copyright Trolling Lawsuits"

Description:

The copyright “troll” label first appeared around 2010, when so-called copyright trolls emerged to enforce copyrights in what has been described as a “litigation-centric business model,” whereby plaintiffs pursue claims of copyright infringement in manners considered unduly aggressive or opportunistic, and generally without either producing or legitimately licensing the work it owns for paid distribution. This CLE lunch program will provide a discussion of the history of copyright trolling lawsuits, along with the present procedural, substantive and ethical issues of copyright trolling lawsuits involving online piracy via BitTorrent peer-to-peer file sharing technology.
