Press Release from Woodcock Washburn LLP July 11, 2013
Philadelphia – National intellectual property boutique Woodcock Washburn is pleased to announce that David J. Wolfsohn, litigation partner in the firm’s Philadelphia office, has been named co-chair of the Intellectual Property Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation for the 2013-14 year. The Intellectual Property Litigation Committee’s leadership is made up of top IP litigators from around the country. The goal of the committee is to keep IP litigators up-to-date on the latest trends and case law relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, the Internet, and unfair competition. With approximately 2,300 members, the IP committee is one of the largest and most active substantive law committees in the Section of Litigation.
David Wolfsohn is an IP litigator who has tried on behalf of both defendants and plaintiffs numerous patent, copyright, licensing, trademark, unfair competition/Lanham Act, and trade secret cases in jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations. He obtained the largest indirect-profits copyright award ever ($30.4 million) in The Graham Company v. USI MidAtlantic, a case that was tried before a jury twice, appealed twice to the Third Circuit, and twice to the Supreme Court; a $70 million settlement of a patent-licensing and inventor ownership dispute; and various other seven- and eight-figure settlements on behalf of plaintiffs. On the defense side, he has obtained numerous settlements for nominal amounts in cases in which the plaintiffs were seeking tens of millions of dollars in damages. The most prestigious lawyer-ranking resource, Chambers USA, cited client sources describing David as a lawyer who displays a "wonderful combination of technical knowledge and ability to connect with a jury and clients,” "an effective negotiator who is great at building a case,” and "an extraordinarily intelligent lawyer.” In 2012, David was named Philadelphia Lawyer of the Year in Intellectual Property Litigation by Best Lawyers in America.
