We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Member H. Joseph Mello.
Joseph Mello's career in intellectual property law spanned nearly fifty years. At the time of his passing, he was Of Counsel at Winston & Strawn, having retired from the firm in 2011. Previously, he served as a partner at Golenbock and Barrel LLP and at Thelen Reid and Priest LLP. He had also been Chairperson of the Copyright Law Committee of the Intellectual Property Section of the New York State Bar Association.
A Brooklyn native, Joe was, according to the New York Times:
A man who loved to gather at a table with family and friends…a connoisseur of food and wine and an aficionado of conversation, famous for passing on family history through wonderful storytelling. Each day, he relished his New York Times and took great joy in discussing all the news. He loved to travel, often with his dear friends from Cornell University, and especially to his ancestral home of Sicily, which was never far from his heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and will be remembered forever by those who had the privilege to know him.
