The Copyright Society of the USA is seeking students and new professionals to volunteer. Most work will be done in our Midtown Manhattan office, although remote projects are available.

Volunteering with the Society offers unparalleled opportunities to familiarize yourself with the copyright field. As a volunteer, you will get an inside look into the country's premier association for copyright professionals. Our members include attorneys from leading IP firms, solo practitioners, in-house counsel, the authors of primary copyright law treatises, representatives of the U.S. Copyright Office, academics, professionals working in TV, film, music, media, publishing, and fashion, and more.
We do not require a mandatory number of hours from volunteers. We are seeking volunteers who can come in weekly, but it is possible to volunteer just once or twice. Once volunteers have committed to come in on a particular date, however, it is essential that they honor that commitment. Students receive free membership after four hours, and recent graduates or others who have worked in IP law for no more than five years receive free membership after eight hours.
The work is primarily administrative or marketing-related; we are not able to offer legal internships. Useful but not mandatory skills and experience include:
- Social Media/Marketing
- Familiarity with the basic principals of copyright law
- Familiarity with The Bluebook citation format
- Event Planning
We do have opportunities to work on ongoing projects more directly related to copyright law. Volunteers who have demonstrated a commitment to the Copyright Society and who volunteer regularly are given priority when it comes to ongoing projects.
Please get involved! Look over our website to get a sense of what we do and then email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include some information about yourself and your interest in our work.
