ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Our panelists will discuss the privacy and intellectual property issues that arise from the collection and use of big data.

The program will offer 1 Washington State CLE credit.


PANELISTS:

David Green is Assistant General Counsel at Microsoft, leading its Copyright and Trade Secrets team which helps Microsoft define and execute its global copyright and related IP strategy. Dave counsels on a range of complex IP matters impacting Microsoft's devices, cloud and online services, and artificial intelligence (AI) platforms.
Previously, as AGC for Bill Gates's Corbis Corp, Dave handled its legal and business affairs. He launched its successful antipiracy program, and its GreenLight Rights and entertainment division. He developed successful licensing ventures with Marvel, Sony, Hallmark, MGM, Playboy, Universal, and Fox, and was production counsel on several critically praised films.

Dave has deep experience in copyright, tech transactions, licensing, trade secrets, joint ventures, entertainment deals involving digital media, talent, films, and promotions, acquisitions of media, rights, and technology companies, and IP strategies relevant to online services, software, and artificial intelligence. Dave speaks frequently on IP matters. A past Trustee of the US Copyright Society, he serves as Board Member for the UW Program in IP Management and Business Development, and lectures in its IP and Business law courses. 

A serial entrepreneur, Dave has started successful licensing ventures including McQueen Racing LLC (with the iconic Steve McQueen family), and is executive producer on films such as "I am Steve McQueen" (Spike TV), The Man & Le Mans ( Cannes Classic selection), and a forthcoming Bullitt special. He co-founded Zero Point Ventures, teaming with the Albert Einstein Archives and best-selling author James Patterson to produce "Max Einstein", the New York Times bestselling adventure series for kids.

 

David Rice provides strategic advice to clients on data privacy and security, data breaches, cloud services and infrastructure, and related intellectual property issues. Long before data breach was a concern to businesses, David was a pioneer in understanding the legal aspects of collecting, managing, storing, and protecting data. He has over twenty years of experience working with clients specifically on data privacy-related matters. 

A significant part of David’s practice includes conducting data security audits, handling numerous data incident responses, conducting employee cybersecurity training, participating in simulated data incident exercises, and managing vendor contracting involving data security. David develops customized policies and procedures for clients to prepare them to respond to data breaches and to implement data security and privacy best practices. His wide range of clients include a global internet company, government entities, a major global diversified manufacturing and marketing company, educational institutions, banks, energy companies, and utilities. 

David's experience also includes advising in-house legal, engineers, and multiple other corporate channels on domestic and international networking and data center matters, including related data security issues. He has negotiated hundreds of technology contracts, including agreements involving data centers, networking, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), colocation, SaaS, content delivery networks, dark fiber, IP transit, communications services and equipment, complex server systems, wireless networks, equipment leases, device trials, and spectrum leases. In addition, David advises online clients regarding social networking issues, retail sales, terms and conditions, Internet of Things (IoT), privacy policies, and mobile marketing. Transactions have involved services in 30 different countries in North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.David's data-related IP practice includes negotiating a wide range of intellectual property-related contracts, including software development agreements, end user licensing agreements, and trademark licensing agreements. He speaks regularly at conferences and at companies regarding emerging data security and privacy issues.David is CIPP-US certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
