Dear Copyright Society Friends and Colleagues,

I hope this letter finds you safe and healthy. As we all navigate through this new normal, I want to update you on the Copyright Society’s plans for the 2020 Annual Meeting.

Although I initially held out hope that by June we would be able to convene in person, it is now apparent that an in-person meeting will unfortunately not be possible. As expected, the planning committee has risen to the occasion and worked hard to convert the Annual Meeting to a virtual format. All of our speakers have agreed to move their panels online. Acting Register Maria Strong and her team will kick off our virtual 2020 gathering with a “supersized” View from the Copyright Office the first week in June. We are working out the logistics for our remaining panels (and other activities), and will announce additional details soon, but the 2020 Annual Meeting will go on.

I am profoundly aware of how much the Annual Meeting means to all of us. It gives us the opportunity to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and enjoy sophisticated copyright programs. I know I speak for the officers, Executive Committee, and staff when I say that we will greatly miss seeing you in person, but we are also grateful for the flexibility of our panelists, the dedication and hard work of our planning committee, and the availability of technology. This will allow us to provide the high-caliber programming you expect from the Copyright Society.

Current events have made me so proud and appreciative of our outstanding Copyright Society community. I’d like to thank our leadership team, staff, chapter chairs, and committees. We have had frequent phone calls, e-mail exchanges, and Zoom conferences to work through the daily changes and challenges this outbreak continues to throw at us. While this may not be the Annual Meeting we expected, I’m confident that your support and enthusiasm will make it a great success and an event to remember.

It has been an honor and privilege to carry the Copyright Society gavel over these past two years. I encourage all of you to join me online for the Annual Meeting programs. I also look forward to the day—in the near future—when we can mix and mingle together in person and celebrate the organization that we all love.

All best,

Glenn G. Pudelka
