U.S. Representative Kastenmeier (1924-2015): Managed First General Revisions of Copyright Law

We are sorry to announce the passing of United States House of Representatives Member Robert Kastenmeier.

Representative Kastenmeier managed copyright law’s first general provisions since 1909, extending copyright protection to the author’s life plus fifty years. According to an obituary published in the New York Times, he authored 48 laws related to intellectual property, including 21 focused on copyright, and his work helped make possible the adoption of the Berne Convention.
