The symposium brings together stakeholders interested in copyright law throughout the academic, legal, business, creative, and technology communities. The symposium will open with an evening reception, followed by a full day of panel discussions and presentations by government officials, industry professionals, legal scholars, content creators and others on a variety of legal and business issues at the forefront of copyright and intellectual property law. The symposium aims to broaden attendees’ perspectives and provide excellent networking opportunities.

The agenda includes the following breakout sessions:

Library Track

  • Library Copyright Exemption Demystified: Understanding Section 108

Arts Track

  • Music in the Digital Age: Navigating the Licensing Landscape

  • Public Performances: What Are the Copyright Issues?

Technology Track

  • Copyright vs. Patent: How to Protect Software
  • Copyright in the Era of Digital Publishing and Blogging
  • The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA): What You Need to Know

  • Orson Scott Card, award-winning author

The Symposium is presented by Brigham Young University’s Copyright Licensing Office and BYU Continuing Education.
